A vintage bulbous stoneware pottery vase by Valda Ligita Cox 1934 - 2022. Signed "Valda" and dated '76 on the bottom. Rust and brown earth tones.

Size 11.75" tall... widest diameter 9.25"... weight 7.5 lbs.

From the estate of one of her previous students. Excellent condition.

"Born in Latvia on May 16, 1934, she and her family fled her home during the Russian invasion, spent several years in a displaced persons camp in Germany, before immigrating to the United States. She graduated from Syracuse University where she met her beloved husband, Jerry. She was a prominent studio potter and ceramics educator for more than thirty years who will be remembered fondly by her many students at Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and Touchstone Center for Crafts. She was also a co-founding member of Penn Avenue Pottery in the Strip District and a vendor at numerous art fairs throughout the United States. She displayed her wares for more than twenty years at the Three Rivers Arts Festival and was best known for her use of porcelain clay, traditional form and spectacular glazes."
